A Signing Hands course lasts for 8 weeks. The lessons are once a week and last for one hour. There are ‘Beginner’, ‘Advanced’ and ‘Follow on’ Courses available.

The lessons are for parents/carers and babies. They will consist of approximately 30 – 40 minutes of signing time with the babies, using stories, songs, rhymes and play and then morning or afternoon tea will be provided while you have the opportunity to chat to other parents.

Each course participant will receive an information pack including pictures of all the signs taught during the course. It will also include information on the history of signing with babies, research into the subject and tips to help ensure the best results.

The main emphasis during Signing Hands classes is having fun with your baby. Babies acquire the majority of their knowledge and skills through play and interaction with those around them. Signing with your baby is a unique experience, enhancing the close bond between you and allowing for communication and understanding from an incredibly young age.

TEACH YOUR TODDLER TO SIGN

Following the success of its current Baby Signing courses and in response to demand from parents, Signing Hands is introducing Toddler Signing Courses from August 2008.

Signs will be taught through a variety of activities - singing, dancing, games & craft. A different theme will be introduced each week and the children will make something interactive to take home.
No previous signing experience is necessary. The toddlers will be introduced to a whole range of Auslan signs including colours, animals, emotions, numbers, the alphabet, communication signs and many more.

Signing with babies and toddlers increases self confidence and allows a level of communication not yet possible orally. All signs are introduced “in addition” to speech, thereby helping to develop early speech in pre-verbal babies and increase the vocabulary of toddlers.
